My connection to Moldova

Why Moldova matters to me.

A first visit led to lasting friendships, business partnerships, and many return trips with my family.

How the connection began.

A software developer from Hîncești whom I hired in Los Angeles first introduced me to Moldova. The appeal was immediate: its people, food, culture, and weather. Longer stays gave me the chance to get to know the country.

More than 20 extended visits and several entire summers have allowed me to know Moldova beyond the experience of a short trip. Friendships and working relationships developed alongside a growing attachment to everyday life here.

People & everyday life

A place in my
everyday life.

My investments are one part of the connection. Family visits, music, history, and everyday life have made the country important to me in other ways too.

Local partnerships

Local business partners

Sergiu Hîrbu is my local business partner. We work together on strategy and investment decisions, alongside the teams developing each company.

Family

Family visits

My wife and daughter have visited Moldova and love it too. Sharing the country with them has made my connection to it more personal.

Romanian

Studying Romanian

I am in my third year of studying Romanian. My level is intermediate: I can follow conversations and read documents. I continue lessons by video with my teacher from Anenii Noi.

Everyday favorites

Personal favorites

My favorite restaurants in Chișinău are Sisters and La Plăcinte. They are very different, and I love them both. Lattese milk, sold at NR.1, is my favorite anywhere in the world. I also love their lapte covăsit, a cultured milk.

Music

Working with Kapushon.

Kapushon and I met at his Las Vegas concert event during a visit to the United States. A shared interest in music and affection for Moldova became the starting point for an ongoing collaboration.

Când moldovenii au pornit prin lume

Filmed around Los Angeles and at my home in Las Vegas when Kapushon returned with Gosh. Alongside my production and script work, I make an appearance behind the wheel of the Zhiguli.

Production and co-writing the script with Gosh and Kapushon.

Galbenă Moldovă

A project marking Moldova’s 35th anniversary of independence, combining music with archival images supplied by Teleradio-Moldova.

Idea, initiative, and project production.

Album

Rapfonie de iarnă

I executive-produced the entire album. The album brings out the depth of Kapushon’s writing: personal, reflective lyrics delivered with his distinctive voice.

Historic Chișinău

Historic Chișinău.

I love discovering historic Chișinău through its photographs and postcards. I support Old Chișinău and admire the work its team does to document the city’s past. My collection is on Bessarabica, where these images are available for others to explore.
