Developing Ileana Foods in Chișinău means entering a market where pelmeni and colțunași, both types of filled dumplings, are already familiar to the people we hope will buy them. Customers know what they like. We have to meet those expectations with the product itself and with production that can maintain its quality.
The second purchase matters
Packaging can persuade someone to try a product. The dough, filling, and texture after cooking determine whether they want it again. For a familiar food, novelty has limited value; the important question is whether the meal deserves another purchase.
Ileana’s published approach emphasizes carefully selected ingredients and recipes in which each ingredient has a purpose. Those choices matter commercially as well as in production. Our descriptions of the product need to reflect what customers will actually find when they prepare it.
A recipe and a production business
A good recipe is a starting point. Producing it at a consistent standard is a different challenge. Ileana’s quality information covers ingredient handling, hygiene, temperature, traceability, and freezing. These are practical concerns at the heart of a frozen-food business.
My role is strategy and commercial development, working alongside the local production team. The decisions need to fit together: the range we offer, the capacity required to make it, and the expectations we set with buyers. The commercial plan needs to match what the production team can reliably deliver.
Choosing where to focus
The customer wants something enjoyable and convenient to store and prepare. A retailer or distributor also needs clear product information and handling requirements. Understanding both perspectives helps us decide how to present the range and where to concentrate our efforts.
I prefer a focused initial range supported by consistent production and a clear understanding of demand. Expansion should follow what we learn from the product and the market. Every additional item brings decisions about ingredients, production, storage, and sales; we need a good reason to add it.
